Introduction

The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has activated the online application portal for Advertisement No. 13/2026 today, February 27, 2026. This drive aims to recruit highly qualified legal professionals for the post of Assistant Prosecution Officer (APO). These officers represent the state in criminal matters and work under the Directorate of Prosecution.

Selection will be conducted through a three-stage rigorous process: a Preliminary Screening Test, a Main (Written) Exam, and a Personality Test (Interview). Candidates appointed will be placed in Pay Level 9 with a basic pay range of ₹53,100 – ₹1,67,800, along with Bihar government allowances.

2. Eligibility Criteria (as of 01.08.2026)

A. Educational Qualification

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) (either 3-year or 5-year integrated course) from a university recognized by the Bar Council of India.
  • Candidates must be eligible to be registered as an advocate to practice in court.

B. Age Limit

  • Minimum Age: 21 Years.
  • Maximum Age (UR Male): 37 Years.
  • Maximum Age (UR Female, BC/EBC Male & Female): 40 Years.
  • Maximum Age (SC/ST Male & Female): 42 Years.

4. Exam Pattern & Syllabus

Stage 1: Preliminary Exam (Objective – 200 Marks)

  • Paper I: General Studies (100 Marks): General Science, Current Affairs (National/International), History of India & Bihar, Geography, and Indian Political System.
  • Paper II: Law (100 Marks): Fundamental knowledge of the Constitution of India, IPC/BNS, Evidence Act/BSA, and CrPC/BNSS.
  • Negative Marking: 1/4th (0.25) mark per wrong answer.

Stage 2: Main Exam (Written Descriptive – 900 Marks)

Includes 7 papers: General Studies (100), Hindi (100), English (100), and core legal papers including IPC, Evidence Act, CrPC, and Other Special Laws (Arms Act, POCSO, etc.).

Stage 3: Interview (100 Marks)

Testing legal aptitude, personality, and communication skills.
