Introduction

The PSTET 2026 is the gateway for candidates aspiring to teach in primary (Classes I-V) and upper primary (Classes VI-VIII) sections of government and private schools across Punjab. Conducted once a year, this state-level eligibility test evaluates pedagogical skills and subject expertise.

For the 2026 cycle, the application window is relatively short, closing on February 20, 2026. Candidates are encouraged to complete their registrations early to avoid technical delays. The exam will be held in offline (Pen-and-Paper) mode across various centers in the state.

2. Eligibility Criteria

A. Paper 1 (Classes I to V)

  • 12th Pass with 50% marks + 2-year D.El.Ed (Diploma in Elementary Education).
  • OR 12th Pass with 50% marks + 4-year B.El.Ed (Bachelor of Elementary Education).

B. Paper 2 (Classes VI to VIII)

  • Graduation + 2-year D.El.Ed (Diploma in Elementary Education).
  • OR Graduation with 50% marks + 1-year B.Ed (Bachelor of Education).
  • OR 12th Pass with 50% marks + 4-year B.A./B.Sc.Ed.

3. Exam Pattern & Syllabus

Both papers consist of 150 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) to be solved in 150 minutes. There is no negative marking.

Paper 1 (Primary Stage):

  1. Child Development and Pedagogy: 30 Marks
  2. Language I (Punjabi): 30 Marks
  3. Language II (English): 30 Marks
  4. Mathematics: 30 Marks
  5. Environmental Studies: 30 Marks

Paper 2 (Elementary Stage):

  1. Child Development and Pedagogy: 30 Marks
  2. Language I (Punjabi): 30 Marks
  3. Language II (English): 30 Marks
  4. Subject-Specific (Math & Science OR Social Studies): 60 Marks
